Antique Brass Bed Frame

I have always wanted an ornate brass bed frame .  I have several of the old iron ones, but I continually kept my eye out for an ornate brass one.  I really would like to have one similar to what the Munsters have in their spiderweb filled bed-room, but those big ornate ones were just too much for my budget. Several years ago I found one that would do.

Everything pictured above was purchased in second hand thrift stores over the years.

If you are familiar with antique beds, you realize that they are not made for a queen size mattress, so how do you address the dilemma of how to fit a queen sized mattress on a full size frame?

Well, sometimes you just have to improvise.

I suggested we take the cover off the box spring and put the frame together inside the springs.  Hubby used a saws-all and cut jigs in each corner to allow the curves of the bed frame to fit in snugly against the box spring.  We have always used old waterbed drawers under our bed to set the box- spring on so it was a matter of matching everything together before cutting the wood.

We were surprised that it actually went together as easily as it did.  O.k. it really wasn't that easy, but we finally got it together. ( Only breaking off a small piece of the frame.)

Vintage Chandeliers

I began collecting the old brass/crystal chandeliers over 20 years ago.  Every time I happened to find one at a thrift store, I would drag it home, screw a large hook into a ceiling joist and hang them up.  Many of them weren't even hooked into a power source, just hanging and sparkling in the sunshine.  I had several high up in the eves of the sun room, over my desk, and even hanging outside in the trees. I have always been fascinated by lighting.  Quirky, vintage, antique, I collect them all.  Many items I sell at the store I work in, Gypsy Mama's, are lamps and chandeliers I have collected over the years.

When I lived in the "Little Red House"  I had a small chandelier hanging over my office desk in the sun room.

After living in our current rental for a couple of years, we finally took down the nondescript fan light hanging in the bedroom and hung one of my beautiful, sparkling, antique Chandeliers.

Look what I found!  I purchased these crystal door knobs (3 matching pairs)
over 10 years ago, (I still had the receipt with the date in the bag), and then they disappeared in one of our many moves.  I have hunted and hunted for them and wouldn't you know when I wasn't looking and they were the furthest thing from mind, I open the drawer to my old, old chippy peach dresser and there they were!
Just had to let ya know.

Over the years I have looked for crystal knobs, (because I couldn't find mine) but they have become hard to find, usually not a matched pair, and the price is way out of my budget

Aren't they beautiful

simply opened the drawer to this old dresser and there they were.....
individually wrapped in crinkly brown paper and placed in a plastic bag......
amazing.....
after all these years
